On June 15, 1950 he was united in marriage to Venita Casey at St. The couple farmed in the rural Cascade area until retiring in 1985. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #538 for 70 years.
He is an Army Veteran, having served in World War II in the South Pacific as an Army Engineer. He delivered Meals on Wheels for 25 years and also helped to manage a hotel in Cedar Rapids.
She loved dancing and music, always ready to hit dance floor.
Jackie had a strong love of the beach and ocean where she grew up and visited there as often as she could.
The couple was the third generation to farm on their land near Bernard.
Dorothy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

He is survived by his wife, Venita Knapp of Cedar Rapids, IA; seven children, Maureen Ries (Dave Mc Cabe) of Galena, IL, Debra (Bill) Schmelling of Cedar Rapids, IA; Gary "Morgan" (Sheila) Knapp of Cascade, Juli (Don) Vrotsos of Dubuque, Jacki Knapp (Bruce Woolfolk) of Cedar Rapids, Peggy (Ed) Epping of Atkins, IA, and Kelly Knapp of Marion; 22 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; a brother, Richard "Dick" (Betty) Knapp of Bernard; brothers-in-law, Leo Biehl of Maquoketa, Dell (Bev) Casey of Brentwood, CA, John Casey of Des Moines, Pat (Sharon) Casey and Chuck (Donna) Casey both of Cascade and three sisters-in-law, Cherri Wessels of Dyersville, IA, Gerene O'Brien of Monticello, IA and Gloria Casey of Mission, TX; and their family dogs, Max & Dolly.
